A 6-year-old boy is in critical condition after he nearly drowned in a pool in Habersham County on Saturday.

Deputies were sent to a home in Mount Airy just after 6 p.m., authorities said. By the time they arrived, bystanders had gotten the child out of the pool. Witnesses told deputies the boy was under water for possibly 10 minutes.

Habersham emergency officials tried to resuscitate the boy. The 6-year-old was air lifted to Children’s Health Care of Atlanta. His identity has not been released.

Witnesses said a person was on a personal watercraft and was trying to pull it onto a boat ramp at Shoal Creek Park when the watercraft flipped over around 8 p.m.
