No serious injuries were reported when an SUV flipped over several times this afternoon on I-575 in Cherokee County.

A 23-year-old woman and a 3-year-old child were inside a black Ford Explorer heading northbound near Exit 16 at the time of the single-vehicle wreck, around 2:15 p.m., according to Tim Cavender with the Cherokee County fire department.

Witnesses told investigators that the vehicle flipped several times before landing on its side, Cavender said.

The driver complained of an ankle injury, but the child did not appear to be injured, Cavender said. The child was in a carseat at the time of the wreck and the woman was wearing a seatbelt, he said.

Both were transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for evaluation.

Traffic on I-575 was temporarily diverted while the wreckage was cleared. The wreck remains under investigation.
