The woman described as the girlfriend of the Las Vegas mass shooter told FBI agents she had no explanation for his murderous rampage
"I knew Stephen Paddock as a kind, caring, quiet man," Marilou Danley said in a statement read by her attorney, according to the Los Angeles Times.
"He never said anything to me or took any action that I was aware of that I understood in any way to be a warning that something horrible like this would happen,” her attorney Matt Lombard read, according to the Times.
Lombard’s statement came after Danley, 62, was interviewed by FBI agents in Los Angeles.
An Australian of Asian heritage, Danley had been abroad since before the Sunday night massacre, during which her boyfriend, Stephen Paddock, allegedly sprayed a crowded outdoor concert arena with semi-automatic weapons fire, committing the worst mass shooting in U.S. history.
Two weeks before that event she was “sent away” to the Philippines according to a CNN affiliate.
“She was sent away so that she will be not there to interfere with what he's planning," one of Danley's sisters told Seven News from their home in Australia's Gold Coast region.
According to the Associated Press Danley arrived in the Philippines on Sept. 15, and took a three-day trip to Hong Kong, returning to the Philippines Sept. 22. she flew back to the U.S. Tuesday.
News reports say that Paddock wired thousands of dollars to the Philippines in the days before the shootings.
On Sunday more than 20,000 country music fans had gathered at the Route 91 Harvest festival to hear performances by Jason Aldean, Eric Church and Sam Hunt.
Paddock allegedly took a room on the 32nd floor of the nearby Mandalay Bay hotel days before, bringing in an arsenal of 23 weapons, including AR-15-style assault rifles.
From there he punched out two windows, and during the last set of the concert rained bullets down on the crowd for up to 11 minutes, police say, leaving 58 dead and more than 500 wounded.
Danley’s LinkedIn profile said she was a “gambling and casino professional” who lived in Reno, Nevada. Between 2010 and 2013 she worked as a “hostess” for the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, where she met Paddock, according to his brother Eric Paddock.
She had been married Geary Danley, an auditor for Fed Ex, from 1990 to 2015, according to the Times.
