The weekend will begin rainy, but end sunny, with Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton predicting that skies should be clearing by late Saturday afternoon. Here's what you need to know to navigate this weekend's rain, road construction and downtown events:

Weather forecast:

Minton is predicting a 70 percent chance of rain Saturday, but a 100 percent chance of sunny skies for Sunday. Highs will be in the upper 60s Saturday and mid-60s Sunday, with morning lows in the upper 50s Saturday and low 40s Sunday.

Saturday's rain could delay road construction:

The Georgia Department of Transportation had warned that roadwork on I-85 southbound could block up to four lanes and cause big backups, but that work is weather permitting.

Other lane closures are planned on Ga. 400 southbound from Wieuca Road to Sidney Marcus Boulevard, on I-285 in both directions between Cobb Parkway and Peachtree Dunwoody Road and on I-20 in both directions in Douglas County, but those projects are also weather-permitting.

"Staying Alive on I-75":

Georgia State Patrol troopers and Motor Carrier Compliance officers will be joining law enforcement agencies from Florida to Michigan this weekend in high-visibility patrols along the 1,786 mile length of I-75. According to a GSP spokesperson, the goal of the "Staying Alive on I-75" initiative is to keep the roadway safe and fatality-free this weekend.

Big events to draw crowds downtown:

The Atlanta International Auto Show continues through Sunday at the Georgia World Congress Center, which is also hosting several other major events this weekend. The annual Hinman Dental Meeting wraps up Saturday at the World Congress Center, while the Atlanta Science Festival continues through Sunday at the convention hall. The Energy For Life Atlanta Walkathon to benefit the Atlanta Mitochondrial Disease Foundation had been scheduled for Saturday morning in Centennial Olympic Park, but due to the soggy forecast, the one-mile walk has been moved to the nearby World Congress Center.
