Hawks owner Bruce Levenson stepped in it when he theorized that white folks stay away from Hawks games because they’re scared of all the black folks.

For some, that’s probably true. But I’ll tell you what many more whites are really scared of: Heeding the renewed calls for open, honest racial dialogue and saying something that will make them sound insensitive, clueless or worse.

So don’t be surprised if all those exhortations for soul-baring conversation yield exactly as much as past ones did.
