One teenager is in custody and another is wanted in Spalding County after police say a dispute over a stolen bicycle erupted into gunfire Sunday night, sending a woman to the hospital with serious injuries.

Michael Marquavious Jester, 18, has been arrested, but Rasheed Shareef Redding, 16, remains on the run Monday afternoon after a 51-year-old woman was shot at a house in the 500 block of Hallyburton Street about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a Griffin police Facebook post.

Virginia Sanchez, who lives on the same street, was taken to Wellstar Spalding Regional Hospital and then to Atlanta Medical Center, police said.

Another residence in the area was also hit with an apparent stray round, but no one was injured at that location.

Investigators confirmed that the suspects, both from Griffin, went to the Hallyburton Street home to confront someone about the stolen bike, police said. At some point, “one of them discharged a firearm, striking Sanchez,” the post said.

Jester and Redding will both be charged with aggravated battery, five counts of aggravated assault with a weapon and criminal trespass/damage to property, police said.

Redding, described as about 5-foot-8 and 110 pounds, will also be charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a pistol by a person under 18 years of age.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Investigator Adam Trammel at 770-229-6450, ext. 526, or call 911.
