A Gwinnett County high school student was seriously injured Tuesday morning when he was hit by a vehicle near Lilburn.

The 16-year-old boy, identified as Parkview High School student Jonathan Porter, was on his way to school and was trying to cross Five Forks Trickum Road near Arlene Court when the driver of a 1998 Buick Century hit him, Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter said.

There was no crosswalk at the location, he said.

Porter was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in serious condition.

The driver of the Buick stopped and has not been charged, Ritter said.

"The preliminary investigation revealed that there were no signs of excessive speed, alcohol or drugs on the part of the driver," he said.

The accident happened a short distance from the school, which is on nearby Cole Road.
