Smyrna man accused of sexual abuse of relative
A Smyrna man accused of sexually abusing an underage relative has been charged with multiple offenses, including child molestation. The abuse reportedly went on for about five years and the girl ended up pregnant, authorities said.
Michael Joseph Johnson, 33, is accused of molesting the girl at several locations in Cobb County from August 2005 to December 2010, according to Smyrna police spokesman Officer Christopher D. Graeff.
On May 8, 2013, Smyrna police received information from the Division of Family and Children Services regarding the alleged sexual abuse, Graeff said.
As a result of the alleged abuse, the girl became pregnant in February 2010 and gave birth to a child November 2010, Graeff said. Johnson faces two counts of child molestation, aggravated child molestation, aggravated sexual battery, rape, incest and first degree cruelty to a child.
He was arrested March 1, 2014 in Fort Walton, Fla., and transferred to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on March 11, 2014, police said. Johnson is being held without bond.
