Services have been set for De’Antre Turman, the Creekside High School 11th-grade football player who died Friday night after being injured during a scrimmage.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Word of Faith Family Worship Cathedral at 212 Riverside Parkway in Austell. Bishop Dale C. Bronner will lead the ceremony.

Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Friendship Community Church at 4141 Old Fairburn Road in Fairburn.

Turman played cornerback for the Seminoles and had a scholarship offer from the University of Kentucky. He broke his neck after a routine tackle during the scrimmage against Banneker High School in College Park.

Turman’s legal guardian, Tarsha Keller, raised Turman since he was in the fifth grade. “He was a blessing to all of us,” Keller said.

A vigil was held to remember Turman last Sunday at the Ben Hill Recreation Center in Fairburn where hundreds gathered to listen to former coaches and players speak of Turman and how he touched so many lives.

A YouTube video paying tribute to Turman was produced by a close friend.
