A popular Cobb County pizza shop “will be closed indefinitely” after a Tuesday night fire gutted the business.

The owner of Lopardo’s New York Pizza and Pasta told Channel 2 Action News he plans to reopen his business, but there’s a lot of work ahead of him.

“Our dining room and most of our bar is gone, so we’re going to have to rebuild that,” Scott Rheinhold said.

The fire broke out around 11 p.m. The restaurant, which is on George Busby Parkway, was closed at the time.

A passerby saw flames shooting from the roof and called 911, Channel 2 reported.

Cobb firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to nearby businesses, but not before it did some damage to Lopardo’s. The restaurant had been open five years.

“The fire department got here pretty quick and they were able to contain it,” Rheinhold said.

The owner said he didn’t know how the fire started, but he guessed an electrical malfunction, possibly a soda cooler, was the culprit.

He said he hopes to get the business back up and running quickly.

“Support us when we reopen,” Rheinhold said. “Help us out. People who have enjoyed our pizza, cheesesteaks and keep voting one of the best in Atlanta, just keep coming back.”
