Witnesses told police that someone dropped off a woman at an Athens hospital after she was shot. But that person drove away and left her there.

The woman remains in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after the shooting, according to Athens-Clarke County police spokesman Geoffrey Gilland.

Officers arrived at the hospital just before 11 p.m. Wednesday after receiving the call. There, witnesses told them the woman had a gunshot wound to her upper torso.

Witnesses told police the woman was dropped off by her boyfriend, who then left.
