Gwinnett County police Thursday were trying to determine whether an illegal street race contributed to a Tuesday morning wreck that left a Norcross man dead.

Paul Bohaczyk, 25, was driving a 1998 Ford Mustang eastbound on Ronald Reagan Parkway when he lost control of the car between Bethesda Church Road and Five Forks Trickum Road, according to Gwinnett police Cpl. Ed Ritter.

The Mustang ran off the road, striking a steel guardrail and a tree, and Bohaczyk died at the scene of the 6:48 a.m. crash.

"A witness informed investigators that the driver of the Mustang was driving at a high rate of speed with another vehicle or possibly racing that other vehicle," Ritter said.

Police have not released a description of that other vehicle.

The crash was the second in as many days in which a person died when a vehicle ran off a north metro road and hit a tree.

Early Tuesday, Chase Alexander Luther, 23, was killed when the pickup truck he was driving ran off Hembree Road in Roswell and slammed into a tree.
