A 31-year-old Athens man was arrested Sunday after allegedly stealing his elderly father’s money and punching him in the face.

James Matthew Wallace reportedly assaulted his 65-year old father when the senior Wallace discovered his son was using his money to make a purchase on an adult website, police told the Athens Banner-Herald.

Athens-Clarke police discovered that Wallace had stolen a debit card and a check from his father while investigating the alleged assault at the Legacy Mills apartments in Athens Sunday.

The stolen debit card had been used in a number of transactions, including a purchase at booty.com, an adult website, police said.

Wallace was charged with simple battery, theft by taking and financial transaction card theft. He is currently being held in the Clarke County jail without bond.
