A Floyd County man was arrested Monday on four felony counts of obstruction of law enforcement officers.

Following an alleged drunken attack on a woman, Steven Clay Couey, 46, refused to be handcuffed following his arrest on battery charges and was violent toward four officers, according to a statement from the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office. Once Couey was in custody, authorities said he assaulted jail medical staff while being processed, kicking an officer in the genitals.

During the alleged attack on the woman, the sheriff’s office said Couey put his hand on her neck and left red marks. Children were present at the time, resulting in two counts of cruelty to children.

He has also been charged with public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and violence. Bond has not been set.
