A jewelry store was stunned when a couple walked into the store, pretended they wanted to buy a $19,000 Rolex watch, then later snatched the watch from the counter and left South DeKalb Mall, according to police.

Police said the unidentified couple walked into the store around 4:30 p.m. two weeks ago and asked to see the pricey watch. The couple looked at other items, then left the store, Channel 2 Action News reported.

About 30 minutes later, the man returned to the store alone and asked to see the watch again so he could take a picture, police said.

Surveillance video showed the man grabbing the watch off the counter and running out of the store. While the store has a personal security guard, the guard was only able to chase him to the exit of the mall due due to policy, Channel 2 reported.

Police said the female suspect was waiting outside the mall’s entrance in a Blue Dodge Charger. She and the man quickly drove away.

Police are still trying to identify the couple.

Authorities believe the couple is from the area because they have often been seen together, Sgt. Louis Pierre of DeKalb County police told Channel 2.

“It’s definitely a felony because it has a $19,000 price tag,”  Pierre he said regarding charges.
