An unidentified man was struck by a car and killed when he walked into the fast lane of eastbound Windy Hill Road in Marietta on Sunday just after midnight, according to Cobb County police.

The incident, just east of Cobb Parkway, apparently occurred in an area where there are no crosswalks. But why the pedestrian would attempt to cross into the travel lane of a major arterial road as a car was coming remained a mystery. Police issued a statement saying he attempted to cross “for reasons unknown.”

Anyone with information that could help identify the pedestrian is asked to call Cobb police at (770) 499-3987.

The 26-year-old driver of the car, DuLaurice Malloy, will likely not be charged, police said. He was driving a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria.
