Police in Cobb County say a pedestrian died when a driver hit him and kept going.

The pedestrian, identified by police as Corie Bethea, 44, of Atlanta, was crossing Floyd Road about 11:20 p.m. Friday, Cobb police spokeswoman Officer Sydney Melton said Monday in a news release.

A dark Ram pickup truck was heading north on Floyd Road toward White Boulevard, according to police. Bethea walked into the path of the truck, and the driver hit him. Melton said the driver did not stop.

Bethea was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Melton said.

Police said evidence from the scene indicates the truck was a 2013 or newer model with extensive damage to the front end, including a broken driver’s side headlight.

The crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call Cobb police at 770-499-3987.
