Police believe a pedestrian was trying to cross a busy Atlanta road when he was hit by a vehicle late Tuesday night.

The man, who was not identified, was not in a crosswalk when he was struck and critically injured near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Old Gordon Road, according to Atlanta police. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital when authorities arrived around midnight.

The accident happened near an apartment complex just south of Fulton County Airport-Charlie Brown Field.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation, police spokesman Officer Jarius Daugherty told Channel 2 Action News.
