A suspicious package found at the historic courthouse on the Newnan square was deemed harmless, according to police.

The cardboard box was found outside a door on the west side of the courthouse, according to Gina Snider with Newnan police. Investigators blocked off the town’s square and evacuated area businesses, but later determined the box contained visitor bureau pamphlets, Snider said.

The streets were re-opened shortly before 10:30 a.m.
