An off-duty Atlanta police officer was carjacked early Sunday after being held at gunpoint while stopped at a traffic light, authorities said.

The officer was traveling west on North Avenue and stopped at the traffic light at Argonne Avenue when a man walked to his vehicle and pointed a handgun at him, Atlanta police spokesman Officer John Chafee said.

The suspect demanded the officer’s phone and that he leave his vehicle.

Police responded around 3 a.m. and later located the vehicle, as well as a pistol the officer had inside it, close to Freemont Street and Adelle Street.

The suspect hasn’t been found and police continue to investigate.
