The parents accused of leaving Mississippi with their 2-year-old after their infant was found dead were located late Wednesday in south Georgia, police told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The child, Maliah Harris, was not harmed, a spokeswoman for the Sylvester Police Department said early this morning. Her parents were arrested, but their charges were not immediately released.
Wednesday afternoon, alerts were issued to help find the toddler, who police said could be in extreme danger. The girl’s disappearance prompted a nationwide Amber Alert and a Levi’s Call in Georgia, where police suspected the family could be heading.
Before being found in Georgia, Maliah was last seen around 5:35 a.m. Wednesday in Caledonia, Miss., and was believed to be with her parents, Donald Boyd Harris and Allison Kaye Studdard, according to police.
Lookouts were issued for Harris, 34, and Studdard, 31, believed to be traveling in a 2002 brown or black Pontiac Aztec with Georgia tag PGR7927. Details about their arrests were not released early this morning.
Maliah’s 7-month-old sister was found deceased in the family’s home in Caledonia early Wednesday, Investigator Eric Granderson with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department told WSB Radio. Investigators have not yet determined how the baby died, Granderson said.
Located in Worth County, Sylvester is about 175 miles south of Atlanta. The three were found about 350 miles from their Mississippi home.
