A 57-year-old Cobb County man died Monday morning after he apparently turned into the path of a box truck, according to police.

Kevin Palmer, of Marietta, was driving a silver Honda Accord northbound on Sandy Plains Road when he attempted to turn left onto Wigley Road shortly after 9 a.m., Sgt. Dana Pierce with Cobb police said. Palmer had a green signal, but pulled into the path of a brown 2013 Freightliner box truck, which was southbound on Sandy Plains Road, Pierce said.

The impact pushed the box truck into the path of a white 2007 Chevrolet Silverado truck, which was preparing to turn right into the southbound lane of Sandy Plains Road, according to police. The box truck then struck a traffic intersection control box before coming to a stop in the grass, police said.

Palmer was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Pierce said.

The driver of the box truck, Philippe Pilon, 38, of Alpharetta, also was transported to Kennestone with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet, Frank Langley, 63, of Acworth was not injured.

No charges are expected to be filed in the crash, which remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the wreck is asked to call Cobb police at 770-499-3987.
