Today was payday for two lucky Georgia Lottery players. And the check was not in the mail.

A Cherokee County man won $1 million when he stopped to buy a hot dog and grabbed a $10 Million Cash Spectacular ticket.

Virgil Goddard, of Canton, was on a hunting trip in middle Georgia when he bought the ticket, he told Georgia Lottery officials.

“I scratched it in the truck,” Goddard said. “I saw all of those zeros, and I was just excited.”

Georgia Lottery representatives presented the lucky winner with an oversized check Wednesday at CITGO Food and Gas Mart on Marietta Highway in Canton, a location closer to home.

“I’m going to enjoy life, and that includes more hunting, too,” Goddard said.

Another winner, Melodia Harris, 32, of Douglasville, won the $745,710 jackpot prize from matching all five winning numbers from the Oct. 1 Fantasy 5 drawing.

“I’ve been saying forever that I’m going to win. I used the law of attraction and visualization,” Harris said. “I’m a huge believer in faith, visualization and law of attraction.”

Georgia Lottery representatives presented Harris with an oversized check Wednesday at Hunter Park in Douglasville. She bought the winning Quik Pik ticket at the RaceTrac on Highway 5 in Douglasville.

Harris and her husband, Cedric, have three children, ages 11, 10 and 6. She said she plans to pay off bills, put some aside for her children’s college and help family members.
