Child injured in Stone Mountain apartment fire
A child was taken to the hospital Sunday night after fire broke out at a DeKalb County apartment complex, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Fire crews were called about 11:30 p.m. to the complex in the 1100 block of Rankin Street, just outside the entrance to Stone Mountain Park. They were told residents were trapped inside, but all had escaped by the time they arrived, fire Battalion Chief Kenneth McKinney told the news station.
"There was one injury, one child, minor injuries with smoke inhalation, (who) got transported to the hospital,” he said from the scene.
At least one unit was heavily damaged by fire and several others had smoke and water damage. The Red Cross was called in to assist four displaced families, a total of 11 people.
