The DeKalb County jury that will decide the guilt or innocence of a former DeKalb County School System chief operating officer and her ex-husband, an architect, went home Monday night without reaching a verdict.

They are to resume their deliberations of the racketeering and theft charges today.

The jury met for less than an hour on Friday but had to start over Monday morning because a juror suffered a “medical emergency” over the weekend and had to be replaced with one of the four alternates.

DeKalb Superior Court Judge Cynthia Becker did not disclose the health status, the race or the gender of the juror who fell ill and could no longer serve.

Also, the regular court stenographer had to be replaced as well Monday morning because of a medical emergency in her family, the judge said.

Former DeKalb COO Pat Reid and her ex-husband Tony Pope are accused of manipulating bidding on construction contracts to benefit his firm A. Vincent Pope & Associates.

Reid is facing 65 years in prison and Pope is facing 30 years in prison if they are convicted.
