A former Troy football player from northwest Georgia has been arrested and charged with murder in Alabama, according to authorities.
Dimitri Miles, 21, of LaFayette, Ga., was apprehended Sunday in Troy in connection with the shooting death of 26-year-old Marquise Jermaine McClendon, of Troy. Miles was listed on the 2013 Troy University football roster as a junior linebacker from Birmingham before the page was taken down. CBSSports.com reported Miles was dismissed from the team and suspended by the school.
According to a news release from the Troy Police Department, McClendon was shot Sunday morning and died the same day at Troy Regional Medical Center.
An investigation into the shooting, which occurred in the 400 block of South Brundidge Street, led police to Miles, authorities said.
Miles was being held in the Pike County Jail with a $100,000 bond.
