A father and two of his children were taken to an Atlanta hospital on Saturday after they were attacked by a pair of dogs in Douglas County, police said.

Douglas County sheriff’s Major Tommy Wheeler said the victims were transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.

Wheeler said a father and two young children, ages 2 and 4, were taken to the hospital with multiple bite wounds. Fire department spokesman Wes Tallon said the fourth victim was a neighbor who had come to the rescue. That person declined medical treatment, Tallon said. He said the victims’ injuries do not appear life-threatening.

The family was walking down Greenbrook Drive in the Willows North subdivision when at two dogs ran out into the road and attacked the children, officials said. The father was injured as he tried to pull the dogs off the kids, Tallon said. The dogs’ owner was then able to get the animals back in their house.

Douglas County animal control will take possession of the dogs, Tallon said, and the owner must prove the dogs have had all their shots.
