Police are investigating an early morning drive-by shooting outside a northwest Atlanta recording studio.

Just before 4:30 a.m. Thursday, a group of about six or seven people leaving the studio encountered a gunman in a white Ford Crown Victoria with tinted windows, Atlanta police spokesman Capt. Jack Snowden told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"Supposedly a car came down the street with no headlights and opened fire for no apparent reason," he said.

One man was shot in the back and another was pistol-whipped in the head.

The investigation includes three different crime scenes: the recording studio on Forrest Street, a home in the 700 block of Berkeley Avenue and the intersection of Northside Drive and Holmes Street.

Police were called to the Berkeley Avenue home, which is about a block away from the recording studio, after a report of at least 10 shots fired in the area. At the home, police found the man who was pistol-whipped, Snowden said.

Authorities later found the shooting victim in a car on Northside Drive at Holmes Street, he said. The vehicle appeared to have been hit.

"The victim was trying to make it to the hospital," Snowden said.

Neither victim has been identified and a motive has not been determined.

The shooting victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where police said he was "alert, conscious and breathing." The other victim was questioned by police and taken to Grady, Snowden said.

Investigators have recovered a handgun, he said.

One neighbor of the recording studio said the disturbances have gone too far.

"It's not unusual for the only traffic in the neighborhood to be recording studio traffic," Andrew Crawford told the AJC. "We've had problems with noise, parties and litter. When people start shooting guns, it's time to get rid of it."

Will Jungman, president of the Berkeley Park Neighborhood Association, said the activity surrounding the recording studio has become a nuisance lately with people coming and going at all hours.

He said he likes having artists in the neighborhood and the area remains a wonderful place to live, however, "People who are shooting things are not welcome here."
