Three months after they were rescued from a dog fighting ring, Cornelia and Caesar are ready for homes.
The 2-year-old pit bull, Cornelia, and 8-month-old Caesar were among 20 dogs — along with four hogs and two horses — police found in south Fulton County land on Koweta Road on Oct. 1.
The Atlanta Humane Society said Tuesday the dogs could not be given up to adoption while animal cruelty charges were pending and the dogs had been determined to be suitable for life outside the fighting ring.
A judge signed an order earlier this month, releasing the animals for adoption after they have been evaluated. And, the Humane Society said an animal behaviorist had determined Cornelia, who was apparently used for breeding, and Caesar are friendly to other dogs and as well as people and are ready to go to homes.
The dog fighting operation was discovered when a police officer saw a horse running free and then heard barking in the woods.
The dogs were chained to trees. Police said they appeared to be under-nourished and some had scars suggesting they had been used for fighting.
The property owner, 44-year-old Reginald Crockett. remains a fugitive.
