DeKalb firefighters rescue residents from burning apartment building; 34 displaced

No one was injured after firefighters rescued a few people from a burning apartment building in DeKalb County on Monday afternoon.

The fire took place about 1:30 p.m. at the Willow Branch Apartments at 822 North Indian Creek Drive, DeKalb fire Capt. Dion Bentley told Channel 2 Action News. The incident led to 10 families consisting of 34 people being displaced, according to the Red Cross of Georgia.

While battling the blaze, firefighters went to a third-floor balcony to rescue a few residents who were unable to escape, Bentley said. No other information was released.

The Red Cross said its volunteers are assisting those who were displaced with emergency needs, such as lodging, food, health supplies and emotional support.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
