Gov. Nathan Deal and a top executive with General Motors have scheduled a press conference Thursday to “make a major economic development and information technology announcement” that is expected to be an information technology center in Roswell.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported last month GM had acquired a sprawling former UPS complex that will bring upward of 1,000 jobs to the region.

The company last month purchased the Innoplex facility from UPS after scouting metro Atlanta and several other East Coast cities for the site, individuals briefed of the matter told the AJC. At the time, GM officials declined to confirm the purchase and plans to bring the an information technology innovation center here.

A press conference has been set with Deal and GM Chief Information Officer Randy Mott at 10:30 a.m. at Georgia Tech’s Carbon Neutral Energy Solutions bulding on Strong Street.
