Two brothers suffered gunshot wounds Saturday when one allegedly shot the other in the face then turned the gun on himself in an apparent suicide attempt, police said.

An Atlanta police officer found a man in his early twenties sprawled on the pavement in front of an apartment shortly after noon in west Atlanta. The suspect, the victim’s brother, ran to the parking lot and fired the gun at his own neck in an apparent suicide attempt, according to an Atlanta Police Department statement.

Both men were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a police spokesman. The suspect had an outstanding warrant, a probation violation tied to a burglary offense, the spokesman said. He is expected to be charged with aggravated assault.
