Metro Atlanta is about to get a blast of winter weather as an arctic air mass moves in early in the week, bringing with it the chance of snow late Tuesday.

But don’t grab your snow boots just yet.

“Ground temperatures are in the 50s in the mountains and 60s in metro Atlanta. That means most, if not all the snow that falls will melt once it reaches the ground,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

But there is a risk for snow or a rain/snow mix in parts of north Georgia and perhaps the metro Atlanta area, he said.

The chill will linger.

“With this arctic air moving in, we will see much colder temperatures beginning Wednesday with highs in the 40s, then dropping into the 20s by Thursday morning.”

Temperatures reached a high of 69 degrees Sunday and should be in the mid-60s again Monday and Tuesday before the cold front arrives.
