Clayton police chief avoids indictment

A grand jury has decided against indicting Clayton County Police Chief Greg Porter on racketeering charges.

Clayton’s top cop appeared today before a Fayette County grand jury, which heard testimony about an investigation into a business Porter ran before he became police chief. Investigators allege Porter inflated bills he submitted for his part-time job monitoring participants in a court-ordered DUI program. Porter, his brother Robert Porter, his wife Sabrina Porter and Katrina Hood could have faced seven criminal counts: one count of racketeering and six counts of giving false statements and writing.
