A burglary suspect shot by a Brookhaven resident last week has died.

Clendon L. Sims, 51, of Atlanta, was shot during a burglary attempt at a townhome on Ashford Creek Drive Wednesday, according to Brookhaven police spokesman Carlos Nino.

Sims died from his injuries on Friday evening, Nino said.

A resident of the townhome shot Sims Wednesday morning when he attempted to break into the home in a gated community off Ashford Dunwoody Road, police said.

The suspect rang the home’s doorbell several times. He then kicked in the front door and went in, police said. Once inside, he came across the resident, who fired one shot, striking the intruder in the head. Police did not identify the resident.

The investigation continues and no charges have been filed at this time, Nino said.
