Officials are investigating the cause of a deadly fire that ripped through a southwest Atlanta home early Friday.

A man was found dead inside the home in the 400 block of Pegg Road off Metropolitan Parkway, Atlanta fire officials said.

The victim, who used a wheelchair, has not been identified, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office.

Firefighters responded just before 3 a.m. after a neighbor called 911.

Kenneth Martin told Channel 2 Action News he and his wife, Joi, were returning home and could see the flames shooting into the air from the interstate.

“By the time that we pulled up, the whole entire house was engulfed,” he said. “I had my wife go ahead and call 911. I just kept blowing my horn and try to alert the neighbors around that the house was on fire.”

Officials are waiting for the results of a fire investigation to disclose further details, deputy fire chief Byron Kennedy told the news station.

Police believe the crime was a home invasion
