One person was killed in an officer-involved shooting  outside the Atlanta Public Safety Annex in northwest Atlanta, according to police.

The shooting occurred about 7:40 p.m. Thursday on the 3000 block of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway, Atlanta police spokesman Officer Donald Hannah said.

Two officers had just arrived to the public safety annex to file administrative paperwork when they noticed a suspicious person in a car at the parking lot, Atlanta police Deputy Chief Darryl Tolleson said at a press conference.

“It was during this encounter that a shot was fired and one individual in the (car) was shot and deceased at the scene,” Tolleson said. Officers were not injured in the shooting, he said.

It is not yet clear if the suspect, as police called the shooting victim, had a gun or what specifically led to the shooting. Police do believe one shot was fired.

“We don't know if there was suspicion about this individual in the car,” Tolleson told Channel 2 Action News.

The victim’s identity was not immediately released.

GBI officials is investigating the shooting.
