Four people were taken to a hospital after a fire broke out Monday morning at a DeKalb County discount store.

DeKalb fire Capt. Dion Bentley said an aisle caught fire at the Family Dollar in the 4000 block of Glenwood Road. When firefighters arrived around 8:45 a.m., Bentley said they observed smoke and flames and performed a check of the building before sending in a fire hose. They were able to contain the blaze quickly.

No one was burned, but four people inside the store were being treated for smoke inhalation. At least one person is a store employee.

“The fire did not damage any of the building, just smoke damage,” Bentley said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Bentley said the flames burned through a 10-foot long section on an end-cap aisle.

“You couldn’t recognize the contents,” he said. “It’s a dollar store, so it really could be anything.”

Investigators with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were also called to the scene to assist.
