Resource officers took possession of a BB gun found in a student’s backpack Thursday at William Boyd Elementary.

The officers were able to confiscate the BB gun without incident, and the school was not locked down as a result, school officials said. No injuries were sustained.

School spokeswoman Kimberly Willis Green said the BB gun was found in a 5th grade student’s backpack. The BB gun was confiscated and is in the possession of APS security. There was no interruption to school day operations, she said in an email.

Boyd Elementary is on Johnson Road.

So far this school year, area school officials have confiscated weapons from students in three separate incidents. Chanel 2 Action News reported Wednesday a Douglas County teen brought a loaded gun to his high school.

Last month, officials at The New Schools at Carver found a revolver in a student's purse, and a 13-year-old boy brought a loaded gun to Ridgeview Charter Middle School. The Fulton County eigth-grader admitted his ties to a street gang.
