Body found in Middle Oconee River

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is investigating after the body of a person was found in a river Saturday.

The person was located in the Middle Oconee River near St. George Drive just after 1 p.m., officials said. The person was pulled from the river by the Athens-Clark County coroner and was taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.

Detectives said they do not suspect foul play at this point.

No other information, including gender, was available about the deceased person.
