The GBI is investigating after a body was found at a construction site in northeast Georgia, authorities confirmed.

The body was found Monday on McCreery Road in Jefferson, Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum said in a statement. She said someone reported the discovery to the sheriff’s office around 8:30 a.m.

The investigation was handed over to the GBI.

“No information will be released until the investigation is complete and upon notification of the next of kin,” Mangum said.

According to the Carroll County Sheriff?€™s Office, Tommy Shane Morton was working in the area of East Ranchette Road and Taylors Ginn Road before he walked away.
