Banneker High School in Union City was evacuated late Friday morning after a small fire broke out in a gymnasium closet, a school spokeswoman said.

Fulton County Schools spokeswoman Susan Hale said the fire in a custodian's closet was confined to that space and extinguished before firefighters arrived. However, the entire school was evacuated as a precaution.

No injuries were reported.

Hale told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that school officials were awaiting an "all clear" signal from Union City firefighters before allowing students back into the building.
