The news that three police officers had been killed in an attack in Baton Rogue, Louisiana, shocked America and Atlanta.

The attacks happened after a period of sustained tension between Baton Rouge police over the shooting of Alton Sterling. There have been protests almost nightly since the officer-involved killing on July 5.
