A 21-year-old woman has been charged after calling 911 to report she was being assaulted in a hotel room, DeKalb County police said Wednesday. It was that 911 call that began a man's five-hour standoff with police while holding another woman and 11 children hostage.

Diamond Williams allegedly claimed to be Shanta King when she reported that she was being assaulted by the Korrie Quinton Thomas, Major S.R. Fore said. Williams and Thomas have two children together, Fore said. It was not known whether it was King that was held hostage early Tuesday.

That 911 call sent officers shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday to the Rite4Us Inn & Suites at 4300 Snapfinger Woods Drive, about 10 miles east of downtown Atlanta. Thomas, 36, refused to open the door to a first-floor room and had a knife, according to police. And he wouldn’t allow the woman in the room nor the 11 kids, including 10 of his own and teenage brother, to leave the room either.

Hours later, when SWAT officers entered the room to find Thomas had stabbed himself in the neck, Fore said. Thomas was critically injured and taken to the hospital for treatment, police said. No one else was injured.

A warrant has been issued for Williams charging her with false report of a crime, but she was not custody Wednesday afternoon, Fore said.

After Tuesday’s standoff ended, DeKalb District Attorney Robert James said Thomas should not have been a free man when he held his family hostage.

On Nov. 10, Thomas was sentenced to 15 years, including nine to serve in prison, following a guilty plea on aggravated assault and armed robbery charges, the DA said. Judge Clarence Seeliger gave Thomas a deadline of Nov. 16 to surrender, but Thomas never arrived at the jail, the DA said.
