Ernesto Anderson was found shot inside his car on I-20 in Atlanta.

Authorities have identified a man found shot inside his car on I-20 in Atlanta on Monday afternoon, prompting an investigation that shut down the interstate for nearly three hours.

A call reporting a shooting on I-20 West at Capitol Avenue came in shortly after 12:30 p.m., according to Atlanta police spokesman Officer Anthony Grant.

An officer at the scene found a man sitting in the driver’s seat with a gunshot wound to his head, Grant said. The driver, 32-year-old Ernesto Anderson, was unconscious but still breathing when he was taken to the hospital. He died of his injuries Tuesday, and investigators have since classified the shooting as a homicide, Atlanta police said.

It’s still unclear what prompted the fatal shooting. Investigators said it appears Anderson lost control of the vehicle on the interstate and crashed into a guardrail. A gun was recovered inside the car, authorities said.

Police have not announced any arrests. A $2,000 reward has been offered for information in the case.

All westbound lanes of I-20 were shut down at Capitol Avenue while police were on the scene, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. The road reopened shortly before 3:30 p.m.
