DeKalb County police are investigating after human remains were found Thursday near I-20.

Around 7 a.m., officers responded to a call about possible remains found near the intersection of Lithonia Industrial Boulevard and Hillandale Drive, DeKalb police spokeswoman Michaela Vincent told Channel 2 Action News.

A contractor discovered bones and sheets inside a container just off the road near the intersection and called police. Investigators confirmed that the remains were human.

Neither the identity of the body nor the cause of death could be determined at the scene. Police have sent the remains to the medical examiner for an autopsy.
