A 27-year-old man is dead after a shooting Thursday evening in Lawrenceville, authorities said.

Officers responded to a call about shots fired in the 300 block of Summer Ridge Lane around 6:30 p.m., according to Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. Collin Flynn.

Police found Sayvon Redding of Lawrenceville lying in the parking lot with at least one gunshot wound, Flynn said. Redding was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

About a block away, officers found 21-year-old Isaac Dewater of Atlanta suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, police said. Investigators have charged Dewater with felony murder and aggravated assault in Redding’s death, Flynn said.

Police have not said what led them to accuse Dewater of murdering Redding and whether there are any other suspects in the case.

They believe a fight broke out among several people in the parking lot, which led to the deadly shooting, according to Flynn.

The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call Gwinnett police at 770-513-5300. Tipsters can remain anonymous, and be eligible for a cash reward, by contacting Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477, texting information to 274637 or visiting the Crime Stoppers website.
