A Smyrna man died Friday morning after his truck rear-ended the back of a tractor-trailer on I-75 in Cobb County, causing major delays for hours.

Maurio Andrews, 32, was traveling northbound in a 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche when he ran into the rear driver’s side corner of a tractor-trailer between Windy Hill and Delk roads, Marietta police spokesman Officer Jared Rakestraw said.

Rakestraw said the tractor-trailer, driven by Timothy Bach, 36, of Tennessee, was stalled due to a mechanical issue.

“As a result of the collision, Andrews was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Rakestraw said. Bach was not injured.

The crash snarled northbound traffic for hours and created massive delays for holiday travelers.

Lanes reopened just before noon from the crash that occurred at 9:10 a.m. Delays stretched back past the I-285 interchange.
