A reported suspicious package at a mall on Peachtree Street downtown turned out to be two book bags with school supplies, Atlanta police said.

The scene was cleared shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Portions of Peachtree Center at 231 Peachtree Street were evacuated “as a precaution,” police spokeswoman Officer Lisa Bender said at about 2:45 p.m. The building houses a mall in a busy part of downtown.

SWAT teams were called to the scene.

International Boulevard between Peachtree Center Avenue and Peachtree Street was closed as crews investigated, police said.

The probe came one day after a parcel at an Atlanta post office was investigated by the FBI in connection with the more than a dozen packaged bombs that were sent around the country over the past week. That package was addressed to CNN and was similar to the 14 others that have been sent to prominent Democrats and CNN’s New York office, the FBI said.

Atlanta police also investigated a suspicious package at the Atlanta airport Sunday. That was deemed to be harmless after crews found it contained two flashlights and a weather radio.
