A Brookhaven man’s body was discovered Wednesday morning at a construction site along a popular walking path.

Construction workers found the body of 65-year-old Steven Goldman shortly before 8 a.m. along the Peachtree Creek Greenway in the 1700 block of Briarwood Road, Brookhaven police spokesman Lt. David Snively said.

Police said the body was discovered inside a fenced-in area of the city-owned construction site where Brookhaven’s new public safety complex is being built.

“It was actually discovered by the arriving construction workers,” Snively said.

Police investigators, using forensic evidence provided by the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office, concluded Thursday that it was a “natural death.”

“There were no obvious signs of injury to the body or anything that indicates the death itself was the result of foul play,” Snively said.

Authorities closed the popular multi-use trail for several hours Wednesday morning as they collected evidence from the scene.

The body was discovered by construction workers who arrived at the site just before 8 a.m., police said.

Detectives photographed the area where the body was discovered and flew drones over parts of the construction site that were tough to access by foot. They also used construction vehicles to move around the scene.

Police are using construction vehicles to access areas of the site that are difficult to reach by foot.
